IPL Brats

Beer, it's what's for dinner!

One of the great pleasures of cooking is blending different, perhaps unexpected flavors into a new, delicious combination. In this simple, one-pan recipe, we simmer bratwurst sausages, peppers, and onions in Mighty Squirrel IPL for a delicious take on beer brats.



  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 package, 5 sausages, Johnsonville Beer ’n Brats (or similar product)
  • 1 large onion, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 red pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 can Mighty Squirrel IPL
  • 5 hot dog or bulky torpedo roles, sliced lengthwise
  • Mustard, ketchup, and relish to taste


Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and red pepper and cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 to 10 minutes until the vegetables are soft and the onions begin to look translucent.

Pierce the sausages with a sharp knife to allow steam to escape during cooking. Add the sausages to the pan and cook for about five minutes. Turn and cook on the other side to ensure a golden-brown color on the outside of the sausages.

Add a can of Mighty Squirrel IPL to the pan. Increase the heat in the pan until the beer boils, then reduce the heat and cover the pan to allow everything to simmer for about 15 or 20 minutes. Once most of the liquid has burned off, remove the sausages from the heat and let stand for about five minutes.

Place a sausage and some peppers and onions in each roll, top with your choice of condiments, and enjoy with a cold glass of Mighty Squirrel!–Elaine K. Howley
